A Tribute to Storm Thorgerson

Storm Thorgerson was a genius. His artwork has adorned some of the greatest albums of all time and his distinctive modern take on Dali-esque surrealism has been his calling card the whole time. It’s admirable that his incredibly diverse body of work has managed to morph itself throughout the decades but has never lost that unique vision and style that makes something so instantly recognisable as a ‘Storm Thorgerson’ piece.

The thing that amazed me most about his art is the mystery. In every picture Storm would tease us with 3 or 4 impossibilities or unexplained marvels and leave us mortals sleepless in trying to decode the riddles behind his creations. And it was this element that made us all look deeper and gave the art a life beyond the music.

RIP Storm.

Here are some of my favourite Storm pieces:

Absolution – Muse

Wish You Were Here – Pink Floyd

Bury The Hatchet – The Cranberries

Deloused In The Comatorium – The Mars Volta

Houses Of The Holy – Led Zepplin
