Some things are always going to do well and the idea of merging recent alt-RnB sounds with somewhat credible indie-surf guitar tones pretty much tops that list. Seriously, whether you like it or not this is going to be huge.
I think the interesting thing to observe about this project is how it’s going to be handled when it is inevitably picked up by a major. Is it going to be drenched in a teflon gloss, polished and sent out into the big wide world as the next Ed Sheeran (here’s hoping it isn’t). I think what’s more likely given the obvious credibility in composition and production and not forgetting the brave move to have a 2 minute guitar solo outro (No one does that anymore) is that we may have another rare gem of a pop star that can please the masses while ticking boxes of critics at even the most cynical of publications. A Frank Ocean figure if you will and heaven knows the UK needs one of them.
