I probably wouldn’t be writing about this band if the drummer didn’t stand up…and sing. This isn’t because it’s the only good thing they’ve got going but purely because it intrigued me enough to give me time to get over my initial prejudices and realise that Slaves are a bloody good band. It seems every few years a band comes along who’s punk energy finds an audience beyond it’s usual hardcore following – i’m thinking of Gallows and Fucked Up here. The juxtaposition of their relatively clean cut image (a facade ruined when you see them at one of their sweaty, anamalistic live shows) and aggressive sound put’s these guys beyond any discernible labels and could see the appeal of those snarling John Lydon vocals spread far and wide.
Stand-up drums are the best right?
