I have no idea how it found it’s way there, but I woke with this haunting piece of baroque pop lurking in my bookmarks this morning. Chilling to the bone, this gothic take on what undoubtedly is the sound of 2014 from Violet Skies is a refined mix of traditionalists such as Joni Mitchell and audio pioneers old and new in the form of Massive Attack & James Blake – It’s achingly current but with enough nods to the past to ensure that it has longevity far beyond the present.
